What to look for

Lancers loaded

Carlsbad placed four golfers in the top 13 at last year’s section individual tournament. Three return — Andee Avery, Jasmine Kahler and Tiffany Lin.

A run for state?

Carlsbad finished fifth last year at the state championships. Despite losing Royal, Lancers head coach Brook Brand thinks this year’s team might be even better.

“I feel like we have just as good a chance this year at state,” said Brand. “I think we’re a little deeper.”

Lots of returning talent

Of the 20 golfers who earned All-CIF honors last season, 12 return, which should make for a competitive individual tournament come November.

Watch out for Yuan

Lucy Yuan of Bishop’s will try to win her second San Diego Section title. A junior, Yuan won the individual tournament in the spring of 2021 then came back last fall to place third.
