A female passenger was killed and the male driver severely injured in a motorcycle accident that occurred on July 21 in Rancho Santa Fe.

At approximately 10:25 p.m., William Jimenez, 58, and his passenger, a 49-year-old female (both from Escondido), were riding his 2009 Harley Davidson 3- wheeled motorcycle northbound on Via De Fortuna in Rancho Santa Fe at an unknown speed, according to CHP officer Jim Bettencourt.

For an unknown reason, Jimenez allowed his motorcycle to veer off of the roadway and crash into several trees and a wooden fence, Bettencourt said. Jimenez sustained major injuries and was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.

The passenger on the motorcycle, the 49-year-old female from Escondido (whose identity has not yet been released), was pronounced dead at the scene, Bettencourt said. As of this time it remains unclear what the relationship is between the driver and the passenger.

Alcohol is a suspected factor in this collision, according to Bettencourt. The collision remains under investigation.
