Style specialist advises men looking for custom-made clothing

There’s a new local resource in town for men looking for unique, custom-made clothing for the office. Renée Dye, a style advisor for J. Hilburn Men’s Clothier, offers custom tailoring and “luxurious” Italian fabrics that are stylish and ready to wear.
“It’s for people who like very high-end clothes at a great price,” Dye said. “It’s great for the guy that’s hard to fit because we’re going to fit him perfectly every time. And it’s great for the guy that hates to shop because I will come to him personally.”
The only J. Hilburn style advisor in San Diego, Dye comes straight to the home or office, takes measurements and helps customers build their custom shirt and pants from a selection of more than 300 fabrics. Men can pick out the style of collar, cuffs, pockets and pleat they want in their shirt— even mix and match fabrics for the collar and cuffs.
“They’re just so gorgeous,” Dye said of the shirts. “They sell themselves.”
Dye has been in Rancho Santa Fe for 25 years, working as a graphic designer and running an estate sale business with her sister. Since May, she has worked with J. Hilburn a Dallas-based company founded by Veeral Rathod and Hil Davis, a couple of “hardcore Wall Street guys” who shared a passion for custom-made dress shirts and the way they felt wearing them.
They found a niche in the luxury market where there was no one delivering custom clothing and personal service. The personal touch of a style advisor like Dye makes it convenient for men to get a shirt perfectly fit. She can also discuss details such as French binding, pleats, thread counts and collar styles.
Dye said that while the clothing is high quality it comes without a high price tag— a pair of their custom-made trousers run $99 to $125 and are comparable to $350 to $700 Italian trousers found in the store.
Clients can also buy accessories as well—unique, stylish cuff links and belts are available for purchase.
The orders are shipped directly to the customer although Dye hand-delivers the first clothing order—to ensure it fits perfectly. “With clothing like this, you just look better,” Dye said.
