Sports update for Rancho Santa Fe

Boys basketball:

Torrey Pines lost to Price of Los Angeles 69-53 in a nonleague State Preview game on Jan. 25.

The loss culminated a week in which the Falcons opened Palomar League with two victories; 50-37 against Westview on Jan. 21 and 77-42 over Mt. Carmel on three days later.

Brandon Cyrus scored 24 points to lead the Falcons in the Price game and Sam Worman added 14 points.

Cyrus led the Falcons with 16 points and Worman added 14 points and seven rebounds in the Mt. Carmel game.

Worman scored 22 points to lead the Falcons in the Westview game.

The Falcons improved to 2-0 in league and 17-4 overall for the season.


Cathedral Catholic lost to La Jolla 65-57 in a Western League game on Jan. 24.

The loss followed a 60-48 league loss to St. Augustine two days earlier.

Kevin McNeela scored 22 points to lead the Dons in the La Jolla game and Max Gardner and Reid Johnson added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Cameron Moore led the Dons with 16 points in the St. Augustine game and Johnson and McNeela added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The Dons fell to 3-2 in league and 11-7 overall for the season.


Santa Fe Christian lost to Bishop’s 71-65 in a Coastal League game on Jan. 24.

Brian Finley scored 20 points to lead the Eagles and Stephen Philo and Jack Langborg added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Cole Needham contributed 11 points.

The loss followed a 72-39 league win against La Jolla Country Day on Jan. 21 in which Brian Finley scored 23 points and Langborg added 11 points.

The Eagles improved to 1-2 in league and 13-7 overall for the season.


San Diego Jewish Academy defeated Rock Academy 58-21 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 22.

Adam Sharf scored 11 points to lead the Lions and Aaron Perez added nine points.

The victory followed a 66-46 league loss to Tri-City Christian on Jan. 21 in which Sharf led the Lions with 13 points and Jake Posnock added 12 points.

The Lions improved to 2-2 in league and 11-4 overall for the season.

Girls basketball:

Torrey Pines is off to a 2-0 start in Palomar League play after a 53-41 victory over Mt. Carmel on Jan. 24.

The Falcons ninth win in 10 games overall followed a 47-42 win against Westview in a league opener for both teams on Jan. 21.

Christina Ellis scored 19 points and Sierra Campisano scored 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Falcons in the Mt. Carmel game.

Campisano also had 10 steals and five assists and five blocks.

Chiara Spain contributed four points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks.

Campisano scored 20 points and had 15 rebounds, eight steals and four steals and six blocks to lead the Falcons in the Westview game.

Ellis added 10 points and seven rebounds and Spain contributed five assists, five steals and six blocks.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 13-5.


Cathedral Catholic extended its winning streak to five games as the Dons remained unbeaten in Western League play with a 73-62 victory over Our Lady of the Peace on Jan. 21.

Kendall Fisher scored 27 points to lead the Dons and Juliet Jones added 22 points.

The Dons improved to 13-5 overall for the season.


Canyon Crest Academy is off to an 0-2 start in Palomar League play.

The Ravens lost to Rancho Bernardo 39-33 in their league opener on Jan. 21 and experienced a 55-20 loss to Poway three days later.

Nicolee Quraishy scored 11 points in defeat for the Ravens in the Rancho Bernardo game and McKenna Platt added seven points.

Quraishy led the Ravens with six points in the Poway game.

The Ravens fell to 10-8 overall for the season.

Girls soccer:

A Torrey Pines team that was dominant during nonleague play has been even better since Palomar League play rolled around.

The Falcons are off to a 2-0 start after 10-0 league victory over Mt. Carmel 10-0 on Jan. 23.

The Falcons opened league with a 1-0 win against Westview two days earlier.

Freshmen sensations Catarina Macario and Jayda Hammermeister combined for 17 points to lead the Falcons in the Mt. Carmel game.

Macario scored four goals and had one assist and Hammermeister scored four goals. Anissa Dadkhah contributed two assists and Emily Port, Kelsey McGowan and Camelia Tirandazi each added one goal.

Macario scored the only goal in the Westview game off an assist from Dadkhah.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 14-1.


Cathedral Catholic extended its unbeaten streak to seven games as the Dons defeated Patrick Henry 4-1 in an Eastern League game on Jan. 23.

Dana Dalton scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Dons.

Paige Haley, Sunny Dunphy and Brittany Doan each added one goal and Kelsey Irwin contributed two assists.

Dons goalie Erin Kelly was credited with the shutout.

The Dons improved to 2-0 in league and 12-2-2 overall for the season.
