Torrey Pines had its six-game winning streak snapped as the Falcons took a commanding early lead but couldn’t hold on in a 24-21 Palomar League loss to Ramona on Nov. 1.
The Falcons had first half leads of 14-0 and 21-7 but were outscored 17-0 in the second half of a game that was crucial to their league championship aspirations.
The loss dropped the Falcons one half game behind Ramona for first place.
The Falcons, who fell to 3-1 in league and 6-3 overall for the season were playing their league finale.
They’ll now need help to win a share of the title when Ramona (8-1, 3-0) concludes league play against Westview (1-2, 3-6) on Oct. 8. Torrey Pines would share the title with Ramona if Westview wins that game.
Torrey Pines didn’t appear to need help from anybody early on in the Ramona game.
The opened up a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter when Peter Hollen returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown.
Jack Goena scored on a run from the 3 in the first quarter for the game’s first score.
Ramona closed to within 14-7 later in the second quarter, but the Falcons answered back with Devin Slubowski scoring on a 14-yard run to give the Falcons a 21-7 lead going into the intermission.
Ramona returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter that set the tone for a disastrous second half from a Falcons standpoint.
Cathedral Catholic bounced back from its first Eastern League loss with a 42-14 league win against Mira Mesa on Nov. 1.
The Dons, who were coming off a 19-7 league loss to St. Augustine, left nothing to chance as they built a 35-0 lead going into the intermission.
Chris Moliga rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Dons.
The Dons improved to 3-1 in league and 7-2 overall for the season.
San Diego Jewish Academy experienced an 18-12 loss to Calvin Christian in a Pacific League game on Nov. 2.
The Lions fell to 2-2 in league and 3-3 overall for the season.
Torrey Pines won the North County Conference Championship in record-setting fashion as the Falcons shot a 707 at Twin Oaks Golf Course held Oct. 29-30 with the lowest combined score in tournament history.
The Falcons were a combined 13-under-par as they became the first team in tournament history with all six players contributing at least one under-par round.
Two Falcons were under par on both days.
Sarah Cho finished with a combined 138 score after firing a 70 on the first day and a 68 the next day.
Jennifer Peng shot a 70 on both days.
Muni He also shot a combined 140, firing a 66 on the first day and a 74 the next day.
Sung Eun (Christina) Park contributed a 146 score and Shiyang Fan and Carolyn Zhao added 147 and 148 scores, respectively.
Santa Fe Christian extended its winning streak to four games with a 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 16-25, 15-13) victory over La Jolla Country Day in a Coastal League South match on Oct. 31.
The victory followed a 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-18) league win against Calvin Christian two days earlier.
Lexi Sun had 30 kills to lead the Eagles and Hannah Mathiesen added 16 kills.
Eagles setter Mia Kelter had 41 assists.
Sun had 17 kills to lead the Eagles in the Calvin Christian game and Mathiesen added nine kills.
Eagles setter Ellie Adamson contributed 24 assists.
The Eagles improved to 4-4 in league and 11-14 overall for the season.
Cathedral Catholic won its last two games at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions to finish the prestigious tourney 2-2.
The Dons defeated Dos Pueblos of Goleta (Santa Barbara County) 3-2 (25-19, 25-19, 18-25, 16-25, 15-10) on Nov. 2 and Salinas 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) later in the day.
The wins followed losses to Dana Hills and San Marcos of Goleta the previous day.
Lauren Woodard had 13 kills to lead the Dons in the Dos Pueblos match and Madison Linxwiler added 11 kills.
Setter Jennifer Clark had 34 assists.
Woodard had nine kills and Linxwiler added six kills in the Salinas match.
The Dons improved to 14-15 overall for the season.

Shannon Saffer had 18 kills and Savanna Lurie had 20 assists to lead the Lions.
The Lions improved to 5-2 in league and 13-2 overall for the season.

Mackenzie Pope, Shannon Yogerst, Alie Zimmer and Meaghan Donnelly each scored one goal to lead the Falcons and Gabi Jimenez had two assists.
The Falcons improved to 6-1 in league and 16-5 overall for the season.
Santa Fe Christian lost to San Pasqual 21-17 in an Avocado League East game on Oct. 29.
Bennett Royce scored nine goals and had two assists to lead the Eagles.
Garett Kolonay contributed four goals and Brennan Epps and Taylor Mathieson each added two goals.
Eagles goalie Jack Atkinson had 14 saves.
The Eagles fell to 3-2 in league and 14-15 overall for the season.
