Santa Fe Christian’s consistently solid pitching in April helped the Eagles move into first place in the Coastal League South.
There were no signs of any kind of a letdown in that department for the Eagles in a 3-2 league victory over La Jolla Country Day on May 1.
SFC pitchers Cole Acosta and Chase Bushor combined for 11 strikeouts as the Eagles held their opponents to three runs or less for the 12th straight time (they’re 11-1 over that span).
The Eagles pitching staff boasts a stunning 1.37 team ERA. They’ve struck out 162 batters and allowed just 98 hits and 51 walks in 138 innings.
Acosta, who started the LJCD game and was credited with the win, struck out four batters and allowed two runs on five hits and one walk in four innings.
Bushor struck out seven batters and allowed no walks in two shutout innings of two-hit ball.
The Eagles won despite being held to four hits.
Dillon Paulson led the Eagles offensively with one hit and two RBI.
The Eagles improved to 4-0 in league and 15-5 overall for the season.
Canyon Crest Academy lost two of three games in a Palomar League series with Poway.
Tony Kuznia had two hits including a triple and three RBI and Jacob Gotta contributed two hits including a double and two RBI to lead the Ravens to an 8-6 win in the series opener on April 30.
Brandon Smith, Alex Rejto and Nathan Landers each added two hits.
Landers had three hits and Rejto had one hit and two RBI in a 6-5 loss on May 2.
Riley Adams had two hits including a home run in an 11-6 loss on May 3.
Gotta, Landers and Smith each added two hits.
The Ravens fell to 3-4 in league and 9-11 overall for the season.
Cathedral Catholic continued its dominance of Eastern League play as the Dons defeated Patrick Henry 5-3 on May 2.
Sean Bouchard hit a grand slam as the Dons extended their winning streak to five games.
The Dons improved to 6-0 in league and 20-3 overall for the season.
Torrey Pines was swept by Westview in a three-game Palomar League series.
The Falcons were held to three hits in the series finale, a 2-0 loss on May 3.
The Falcons committed two errors.

Mitchell, who took the loss, allowed two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings.
He led the Falcons offensively with three hits including a double and one RBI.
Torrey Pines was held to four hits in an 8-4 loss on May 2.
The Falcons fell to 2-7 in league and 11-12 overall for the season.
San Diego Jewish Academy defeated Maranatha Christian 7-5 in a Coastal League North game on May 1.
The win was the Lions’ first in league play and snapped a six-game skid.
Cody Brown had two hits including a triple and drove in four runs to lead the Lions.
Issac Shoshoni had a double and scored two runs for SDJA.
Jordan Battaglia, who was credited with the win, allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks in four innings.
The Lions improved to 1-6 in league and 5-11 overall for the season.
Cathedral Catholic remained unbeaten in Western League play as the Dons defeated Madison 12-1 on May 2.
Devyn Magnett, who was credited with the victory, struck out seven batters and allowed six hits and one walk in five innings.
Raven LeClaire and Tierra Falo each had two hits including a double and two RBI to lead the Dons offensively.
Madison Casiano had two hits including a triple and scored three runs and Sarai Niu had two hits including a triple and scored two runs.
The Dons improved to 10-0 in league and 22-2 overall for the season.
