Girls soccer:

Cathedral Catholic won its second straight Southern California Regional Division II title.

The Dons defeated La Costa Canyon 2-1 in the March 15 championship game at Warren High of Downey (Los Angeles County).

Sunny Dunphy scored the game-winning goal early in the second half, snapping a 1-1 tie.

Tamara Gomez scored in the first half for the Dons.

Dana Dalton and Brittany Doan each had one assist.

Dons goalie Hanna Macaulay allowed one goal.

The victory extended the Dons’ unbeaten streak to 22 games (they were 20-0-2 since Dec. 26), with nine straight wins to finish the season.

The win followed a 4-1 victory over Santa Margarita in a Division II semifinal on March 13 and an 8-0 win against St. Joseph of Lakewood two days earlier.

Shelby Cormier scored two goals and Olivia Erlbeck scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Dons in the Santa Margarita game.

Kelsey Irwin contributed one goal and Alyssa Fiddes and Dalton each added one assist.

Macaulay allowed one goal.

Dalton scored one goal and had two assists to lead the Dons against Saint Joseph.

Alex Ocon, Paige Haley and Erlbeck each contributed one goal and one assist.

Fiddes, Gomez, Riley Marshall and Crosby Mackinnon each added one goal and Dunphy and Audrey Hegardt each pitched in with one assist.

Macaulay and Erin Kelly were credited with the shutout.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 26-2-3.

Baseball:

Torrey Pines capped its first full week with an 8-0 nonleague victory over Scripps Ranch on March 15.

CJ Stubbs pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Falcons.

Stubbs struck out seven batters and allowed two walks.

He contributed offensively too with a two-run single.

Jake Singer had two hits and Luke Melikian had one hit and three RBI.

The win followed a 3-1 loss to El Camino in a nonleague game on March 13 in which Stubbs drove in the Falcons’ only run.

Rob Simsiman had two hits including a double and two RBI and Stubbs contributed two hits in a 6-5 nonleague victory over Escondido on March 11

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 3-1.


Cathedral Catholic lost to Poway 8-6 in a Hilltop-Lolitas tournament game on March 15.

The Dons defeated Hilltop 7-0 in the first game of the season-opening tournament on March 11 and beat Valhalla 4-2 two days later.

Brady Aiken struck out eight batters in four innings of one-hit ball to lead the Dons in the Hilltop game.

John Cresto and Conor Telfer combined on three innings of no-hit ball in which they struck out three batters and allowed one walk.

Andrew Wilson had two hits and two RBI and Sean Bouchard hit a solo homer to lead the Dons offensively.

Cresto, Bouchard and Toru Sugiura each had one hit and one RBI to lead the Dons in the Valhalla game.

Jonathan Pendergast pitched a seven-hitter for the win.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 2-1.


Santa Fe Christian pitching standout Chase Bushor flirted with a no-hitter as the Eagles defeated Canyon Crest Academy 4-1 in a Pirate Baseball Classic tournament game on March 15.

Bushor took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and was perfect going into the sixth.

He struck out 12 batters on his way to a two-hitter.

Bushor also contributed a double and scored.

Tyler Ledbetter homered and drove in two runs for the Eagles, who snapped a three-game skid.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 2-3.

The Ravens fell to 2-2.


San Diego Jewish Academy defeated Calipatria 7-5 in a nonleague game on March 13.

The Lions improved their overall record for the season to 2-2-1.

Softball:

Torrey Pines defeated Imperial 4-1 in a Cougar Classic tournament game on March 14.

Monroe Peed pitched a six-hitter to lead the Falcons. She struck out seven batters and allowed four walks.

Xstaviana Augar had two hits including a double and Cassie Kaelber and Emma Wong each contributed two hits and drove in a run to lead the Falcons offensively.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 3-1.


Santa Fe Christian defeated Mission Bay 9-5 in the championship game of the Pacific Beach Classic tournament on March 15.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 6-0.

Girls lacrosse:

Torrey Pines defeated Carlsbad 12-9 in an Avocado League game on March 13.

The victory followed a 13-0 win against Fallbrook in a nonleague season opener the previous day.
