Girls soccer:
Cathedral Catholic’s dynasty is into its third decade and still going strong.
The Dons won their third consecutive San Diego Section title after defeating Scripps Ranch 2-0 in the Division I championship game on March 8 at San Diego Mesa College.
The Dons have won divisional championships in 10 of last 14 years and have appeared in title game in all but two of the last 26 seasons.
Their most recent championship sends the Dons to the Southern California Regional championships. They were scheduled to open the tournament against St. Joseph of Lakewood on March 11 (after presstime for this newspaper).
Alyssa Fiddes and Audrey Hegardt each scored one goal to lead the Dons. Kelsey Irwin and Olivia Elrbeck each contributed one assist.
Dons goalie Hanna Macaulay was credited with the shutout.
The title game victory followed a 3-0 semifinal victory over Patrick Henry on March 4 in which Sunny Dunphy, Tamara Gomez and Fiddes each scored one goal and Olivia Erlbeck contributed two assists.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 23-3-3.
Torrey Pines lost to Westview 1-0 in a San Diego Section Open Division semifinal on March 4.
The loss dropped the Falcons’ overall record for the season to 22-2-1.
Boys basketball:
Torrey Pines lost to St. Augustine 49-45 in a San Diego Section Open Division semifinal on March 5.
The Falcons fell behind 16-4 in a first quarter that set the tone for the game.
Brandon Cyrus led the Falcons with 12 points and five rebounds and Sam Worman added 10 points.
The Falcons fell to 26-5 overall for the season.
They advanced to the state championship tournament. They were scheduled to open against Mayfair of Lakewood on March 12.
Girls basketball:
Torrey Pines lost to Mt. Carmel 68-64 in a San Diego Section Division I semifinal on March 4.
Sierra Campisano scored 29 points to lead the Falcons.
Christina Ellis and Madison Lombard added 14 and 11 points, respectively.
The Falcons fell to 24-6 overall for the season.
Cathedral Catholic lost to Mission Hills 77-51 in a San Diego Section Division I semifinal on March 4.
The Dons fell to 21-8 overall for the season.
Baseball:
Torrey Pines defeated Santa Fe Christian 3-1 in a nonleague opener for both teams on March 8.
CJ Stubbs allowed one run on six hits and one walk in six-plus innings to lead the Falcons to the win. Stubbs had four strikeouts.
Sandy Plashkes pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the save.
Pete Mitchell and Tom Baronner each had one hit and one RBI to lead the Falcons offensively.
Dillon Paulson had one hit and drove in SFC’s only run.
Canyon Crest Academy opened its season with a 10-2 nonleague victory over Mission Vista on March 8.
Brandon Smith had two hits and two RBI to lead the Ravens and Grant Gilbreth and Nathan Landers each contributed two hits and one RBI.
Dylan Gargas, who was credited with the win, allowed one run (unearned) on four hits and no walks.
San Diego Jewish Academy opened its season with a resounding 17-1 nonleague victory over Crawford on March 4.
The Lions played Army-Navy to a scoreless tie the next day and lost to Julian 3-0 on March 6.
Softball:
Santa Fe Christian is off two a 2-0 start.
The Eagles defeated San Diego 11-7 on March 7. That followed a 7-1 win against Southwest in their season opener two days earlier.
Lindsey Godwin had three hits and two RBI as the Eagles combined for 13 hits.
Elyssa Reyes had one hit and four RBI and Erin Vandertie contributed two hits and two RBI.
Taylor Ryan had five strikeouts and allowed one run on two hits and four walks in five innings to lead the Eagles in the Southwest game.
Reyes struck out five batters and allowed no walks in two shutout innings of no-hit ball.
Ryan had two hits including a double and two RBI to lead the Eagles offensively and Kelly Kennedy and Kelly Clanton each added one hit and two RBI.
Reyes contributed two hits and drove in one run.

Xstaviana Augar had two hits including a triple and two RBI to lead the Falcons offensively.
Makaila Reyes, who was credited with the victory, was among three pitchers who combined on a one-hitter.
Monroe Reed struck out four batters in two innings and Kylie Braunreiter pitched one scoreless inning.
