Baseball:

Cathedral Catholic extended its winning streak to 11 games as the Dons opened Western League play with a 7-2 victory over Patrick Henry on April 9.

The victory followed a 7-4 nonleague win against Mater Dei Catholic two days earlier.

Will Law had three hits including a home run and a double and drove in four runs to lead the Dons in the Patrick Henry game.

Brady Aiken, who was credited with the win, struck out eight batters and allowed two runs on six hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings.

Sean Bouchard had two hits including a triple and Law hit a home run and drove in two runs to lead the Dons against Mater Dei Catholic.

Connor Lunn, who was credited with the win, struck out six batters and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks in four innings.

Giovanni Garbella and Andrew Wilson each added two hits.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 13-1.

Santa Fe Christian defeated Escondido Charter 11-0 in a nonleague game on April 10 for its sixth straight win.

The victory followed a 2-1 win against Calvary Christian two days earlier in a game that went eight innings.

The Eagles have allowed just four runs over their last six games.

Cole Weaver had a double, a triple and four RBI and Chase Bushor had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Eagles in the Escondido Charter game.

Gary Saggese, who was credited with the win, combined with Tyler Stephens and Brian Finley on a five-hitter. Saggese struck out three batters and allowed three hits and two walks in four innings.

Bushor scored both Eagles runs in the Calvary Christian game.

The Eagles trailed 1-0 in the sixth inning when he went from first to third on Cole Weaver’s sacrifice bunt and scored the tying run on Dillon Paulson’s sacrifice fly.

Bushor singled leading off the eighth and scored the game winner when Brian Blatnick drew a bases-loaded walk.

Cole Acosta, who was credited with the win, struck out five batters and allowed one run on three hits and one walk.

Acosta relieved Paulson, who pitched four shutout innings of three-hit ball.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 10-4.

Canyon Crest Academy took two of three games from Westview to kick off Palomar League play.

Nathan Landers had three hits and Tommy Kuznia contributed one hit and two RBI to lead the Ravens to a 3-1 win in the series opener on April 7.

Kuznia had three hits including a double, drove in three runs and scored four runs to lead the Ravens in a 14-8 win two days later.

The Ravens lost 5-4 in the series finale on April 11.

The Ravens improved to 2-1 in league in 6-7 overall for the season.

Torrey Pines was swept by Rancho Bernardo in a three-game series that kicked off the Falcons’ Palomar League season.

The Falcons lost the opener 3-1 on April 7 despite a solid pitching performance from Pete Mitchell, who allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in six innings.

Tom Baronner had two hits and one RBI to lead the Falcons offensively.

Baronner had two hits and two RBI and Mitchell added two hits to lead the Falcons in an 8-3 loss on April 9.

Mitchell and C.J. Stubbs each had two hits and one RBI to lead the Falcons in a 7-4 loss on April 11 in a game that went nine innings.

The Falcons led 4-3 going into the top of the seventh when Rancho Bernardo scored one run to send the game into extra innings.

The Falcons fell to 0-3 in league and 7-6 overall for the season.

Boys volleyball:

Cathedral Catholic defeated La Jolla 25-13, 23-25, 26-24, 26-24 in a Western League match on April 11.

Matthew Faraimo had 15 kills and Matthew Elliot had 14 kills to lead the Dons and Dominic Madden added 12 kills.

Dons setter Patrick Kearney had 33 assists.

The Dons improved to 5-1 in league and 9-7 overall for the season.

Girls lacrosse:

Santa Fe Christian defeated Francis Parker 10-5 in a Coastal League game on April 9.

Hollie Pelland scored four goals and had one assist to lead the Eagles.

Kelly Thomas scored two goals and had one assist and Aislinn Mahony added two goals.

Eagles goalie Torey Freter, who was credited with the win, had five saves and allowed no goals in 25 minutes.

The Eagles improved to 4-0 in league and 5-3 overall for the season.
