Baseball:

The trappings of a major league stage can intimidate even a seasoned professional.

But the home of the San Diego Padres didn’t bother Santa Fe Christian’s Chase Bushor one bit.

Bushor tossed a no-hitter to lead the torrid Eagles to an 8-0 victory over Bishop’s in a Coastal League South opener for both teams played at Petco Park on April 4.

The Eagles have won four straight games and seven of their last eight.

Bushor struck out 13 batters and allowed two walks as he lowered his ERA to 1.00.

Over his last three games, Bushor has combined for 32 strikeouts in 19 innings in which he’s allowed just one run on three hits and four walks.

Opponents are hitting .086 against Bushor overall this season.

Brian Blatnick and Dean Eliott led the Eagles offensively.

Blatnick went 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI. Eliott was 4-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored and two stolen bases.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 8-4.


Cathedral Catholic staged a dramatic comeback to defeat St. Augustine 4-3 in the championship game of the City Conference tournament on April 5.

The Dons scored all their runs in their last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning on Toru Sugiura’s grand slam.

The victory extended the Dons winning streak to seven games.

The Dons advanced to the finals after Brady Aiken pitched a no-hitter lead a 10-0 victory over three days earlier.

Aiken struck out 10 batters and allowed one walk.

Michael Kaai and Sean Bouchard each had three hits to lead the Dons offensively and Andre Wilson contributed two hits and two RBI.

Colline DeVaere and Giovanni Garbella each added one hit and two RBI.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 10-1.


Torrey Pines defeated Calvary Christian 8-4 in a North County tournament game on April 3.

Jake Singer hit a walk-off grand slam to lead the Falcons to the win.

The big hit snapped a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The victory followed a 3-2 nonleague win against Mission Hills on two days earlier.

Pitcher Kenny Mares led the Falcons with five innings of two-hit ball in which he struck out five batters and allowed one walk. Both runs charged to Mares were unearned.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 7-3.


Canyon Crest Academy lost to Vista 7-5 in a North County tournament game on March 31.

Jacob Gotta had two hits and one RBI in defeat for CCA.

The loss dropped the Ravens overall record for the season to 4-6.

Softball:

The Torrey Pines Falcons lost to Mira Mesa 6-0 in the Falcon Fiesta tournament semifinals on April 5.

The Falcons advanced to the to the semifinals after defeating La Costa Canyon 10-5 two days earlier.

Xstaviana Augur had four hits including two triples and drove in four runs to lead the Falcons in the LCC game.

Sydny Poh added three hits including a triple and two RBI.

The Falcons fell to 13-4 overall for the season.


Santa Fe Christian defeated Canyon Crest Academy 10-5 in a nonleague game on April 3.

Erin Moody and Lindsey Godwin each had three hits to lead the Eagles and Taylor Ryan added two hits.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 9-2.

The Ravens fell to 3-3.

Girls lacrosse:

Canyon Crest Academy defeated Coronado 10-6 in a nonleague game on April 4.

The victory followed a 9-7 win against Poway in a Palomar League opener for both teams on April 2.

Katie Carlson scored four goals and Alexa Carter scored three goals and had one assist to lead the Ravens in the Poway game.

Emma Normoyle added one goal and one assist.

The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 6-1.


Santa Fe Christian defeated La Jolla Country Day 15-4 in a Coastal League game on April 2.

Hollie Pelland scored four goals and had three assists to lead the Eagles.

Aislinn Mahoney contributed four goals and Sienna Verdult added three goals and two assists.

Eagles goalie Torey Freter had six saves.

The Eagles improved to 3-0 in league and 5-2 overall for the season.
