Baseball:

Cathedral Catholic improved to 3-0 in the City Conference Tournament as the Dons defeated Madison 16-1 on March 28 for their fifth straight win.

The Dons opened the tournament with a 5-2 victory over Mission Bay on March 24 and defeated University City 6-0 two days later.

Griffen Case had three hits including a double and a home run and five RBI to lead the Dons in the Madison game.

Connor Lunn struck out eight batters and allowed two runs (both unearned) on four hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings to lead the Dons against Mission Bay.

Brady Aiken struck out 10 batters and allowed no walks in five innings of three-hit ball to lead the Dons in the University City game.

Andrew Wilson had three hits and John Cresto had two hits and two RBI to lead the Dons offensively.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 7-1.


Torrey Pines defeated La Costa Canyon 2-1 in a North County tournament game on March 29 that went 11 innings.

The win followed a 5-3 loss to El Camino in a nonleague game two days earlier.

Falcons pitcher Pete Mitchell, who underwent minor surgery earlier in the week, pitched seven shutout innings in relief of starter C.J. Stubbs.

Mitchell struck out four batters and allowed four hits and two walks.

Stubbs allowed one run on four hits and two walks in four innings. He left with the game tied at 1-1.

Cole Klemke had four hits and Jake Singer added three hits to lead the Falcons offensively.

Rob Simsiman had two hits in defeat for the Falcons in the El Camino game.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 5-3.


Santa Fe Christian defeated Escondido 12-1 in a North County tournament game on March 28.

The Eagles opened the tournament with a 6-0 victory over Calvary Christian on March 24 but lost to Vista 8-7 two days later.

Tyler Ledbetter and Griffin Rydin each had two hits and three RBI to lead the Eagles in the Escondido game.

Dillon Paulson contributed two hits and two RBI and scored three runs.

Eagles starter Chase Bushor, who was credited with the win, struck out seven batters and allowed five hits and no walks in five innings. He combined with Rydin on the shutout.

Cole Acosta struck out 11 batters and allowed four hits and two walks to lead the Eagles in the Calvary Christian game.

Bushor had three hits and Paulson had two hits and two RBI to lead the Eagles offensively.

Cole Weaver added two hits.

Bushor and Ledbetter each had three hits in defeat for the Eagles in the Vista game.

Ledbetter drove in two runs and Bushor scored three.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 5-4.


Canyon Crest Academy defeated San Pasqual 6-5 in a North County tournament game on March 26.

Brandon Smith had three hits to lead the Ravens and Alex Rejito added two hits.

The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 4-4.

Softball:

Torrey Pines defeated Mater Dei Catholic 3-2 in a Falcon Fiesta tournament game on March 27 that went eight innings.

Falcons pitcher Monroe Peed pitched a complete-game six-hitter. She had one strikeout and allowed two runs (one earned) and no walks.

Cassie Kaelber had two hits to lead the Falcons offensively.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 10-3.

Girls lacrosse:

Torrey Pines lost to Poway 13-10 in a nonleague game on March 28.

The loss followed a 16-10 victory over Cathedral Catholic in a nonleague game two days earlier.

Lexi Kaplan scored five goals and Camille Doan scored two goals and had four assists to lead the Falcons in the Cathedral Catholic game.

Amanda Marks added three goals and one assist and Sammy Cirino contributed two goals and one assist.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 3-5.


Santa Fe Christian experienced its first loss of the season, 4-1 to Poway in a nonleague game on March 26.

The loss followed a 13-6 Coastal League victory the previous day.

Hollie Pelland scored four goals and Paige Stehly scored two goals and had one assist in defeat for the Eagles in the Poway game.

Sarah Mirenda scored five goals and Pelland added one goal and three assists to lead the Eagles in the Pacific Ridge game.

Stehly scored two goals and Sienna Verdult scored one goal and had one assist.

The Eagles improved to 2-0 in league and 4-1 overall for the season.
