Boys basketball:

Two days after a disappointing finish in one tournament, it was back to winning for Torrey Pines.

The Falcons opened the Kiwanis tournament with two decisive victories; 64-46 against Helix on Dec. 18 and 82-48 over Madison the next day.

The Falcons were coming off a tough loss to St. Augustine in the finals of the West Hills tournament on Dec. 14.

They bounced back in the Helix game, outscoring their opponent 21-3 in a first quarter that set the tone for the win.

Sam Worman scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons and Connor Milmoe added eight points and seven rebounds.

Jack Beach pitched in with nine points and Timmy Saunders contributed seven points and four steals.

Marek Sullivan added six points and seven rebounds.

In the Madison game, Dominic Hovasse poured in 27 points and also had six assists and five steals to lead the Falcons.

Worman added 19 points and five rebounds and Brandon Cyrus contributed nine points and five rebounds.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 7-1.

Santa Fe Christian opened the Westminster tournament with a 80-49 victory over Jordan of Los Angeles on Dec. 18.

The Eagles broke open a 19-13 game in the second quarter when they outscored their opponent 22-8 to take a commanding 41-21 lead into the intermission.

Brian Finley scored 23 points to lead the Eagles and Cole Needham added 16 points.

Jack Langborg contributed 14 points and Cole Helfin pitched in nine points.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 4-2.

Girls basketball:

Torrey Pines opened the Kiwanis tournament with two resounding victories.

The Falcons defeated Mission Bay 76-17 in the tournament opener on Dec. 18 and beat Carlsbad 71-51 the next day.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 4-3.

Sierra Campisano scored a season-high 36 points to along with 11 rebounds and five blocks to lead the Falcons in the Mission Bay game.

Campisano has had a double-double in all seven games she’s played this season and is averaging 23.8 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.7 steals.

Christina Ellis added 14 points, eight rebounds, nine steals and five assists, and Madison Lombard contributed eight points and four assists.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 4-3.

Canyon Crest Academy trounced Mission Vista 59-15 in a nonleague game on Dec. 17.

Freshman standout Ally Deremer scored 19 points and had six steals to lead the Ravens and sophomore Grace Weinzettle added 10 points and six rebounds.

Esther Peluso, who’s also a freshman, contributed seven points and 15 rebounds.

The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 2-0.

Girls soccer:

Cathedral Catholic opened the Mater Dei Premier Invitational tournament with three impressive wins as the Dons extended their season-opening unbeaten streak to seven games.

Audrey Hegardt scored one goal and had one assist and Sunny Dunphy scored one goal in a 2-0 win over Arcadia in the Dec. 18 tournament opener.

Dons goalie Hannah Macaulay was credited with the shutout.

Dana Dalton scored on an assist from Hegardt in a 1-0 win against Long Beach Wilson on Dec. 19.

Dalton again scored the only goal off a Hegardt in a 1-0 win against Mission Viejo later in the day.

Macaulay and Erin Kelly combined for the shutout in both games.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 6-0-1.

Torrey Pines extended its season-opening winning streak to six games with 2-0 victory over Ramona in a nonleague game on Dec. 16.

Christina Bragado and Gianna Giacalone each scored one goal to lead the Falcons.

Boys soccer:

Torrey Pines and Cathedral Catholic played to a 1-1 tie in a nonleague game on Dec. 17.

Jack Dempsey scored the Falcons’ only goal off an assists from Connor Hargreaves.

Falcons goalies Jack Sampiere and Patrick Koeneke combined for seven saves.

Andrew Pearlman scored the Dons’ only goal.

The Dons went to 2-3-2 overall for the season and Torrey Pines to 1-1-3.
