Rancho Santa Fe resident named ‘Golf Professional of the Year’
Rancho Santa Fe resident Susan Roll, owner of the Carlsbad Golf Center, was recently honored by the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) San Diego Chapter as its 2010 Golf Professional of the Year Award recipient.
Roll is the first woman to receive this award from the PGA San Diego Chapter, which has over 400 members. This award is presented each year to a chapter member for overall performance, leadership, service to the chapter and Southern California section, and promotion of the game of golf. Her service to the PGA last year included a term on the Board of Directors of both the chapter and section, membership on five committees and teaching at several seminars.
“I am overwhelmed by this honor and it means so much to me to be recognized by my peers for my contributions to the game I love so much,” Roll said.
Roll has 20 years’ professional experience in the golf industry and is a Class A member of both the PGA and LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association). She has earned numerous other awards from the PGA, including Southern California Section Merchandiser of the Year for Public Facilities (three times), Clubfitter of the Year and Horton Smith Award for education contributions. She was also named 2005 LPGA National Professional of the Year.
Under her direction since 2003, the independently operated Carlsbad Golf Center has been named a Golf World USA Best 100 Golf Shop every year since 2007 and a Golf Range USA Top 100 Range every year since 2004. The facility offers an extensive in-store and online pro shop, driving range and practice facility, outdoor custom clubfitting with 12 top brands, private and group lessons, and on-site club repair.
