As of two weeks ago, 1,321 ballots had been cast in the vote on the Rancho Santa Fe Association’s purchase of the Garden Club building, up from 786 total ballots in the same vote held in April 2013.
Director Craig McAllister said the number of ballots cast eclipse the Association’s peak of 1,312 in a board election in 2002.
“That is exceptional,” McAllister said.
Since February, the number of registered voters is now 2,070 of 2,700 eligible voters, representing 77 percent registration.
RSF Association Board President Philip Wilkinson said he is proud of the effort the Association has made to register more residents to vote, including sending registration forms and letters to eligible voters. Director Ann Boon also acknowledged the efforts of individual members who have sent out their own mailers and started a website to register voters. Although not officially affiliated with the Association, the website did bring in new voters.
At the last meeting, it was brought up that there had been some issues regarding verifying signatures. Wilkinson said there is a very clear process that the election inspector undertakes to check signatures — if they appear to have changed, they ask the members to review and resign.
“We’re making every effort to make sure that every vote counts,” Wilkinson said.
