Kids Korps honors ‘Superstar’ community leaders at annual Superstar Gala

Share

Each year, Kids Korps’ Super Star Gala honors community leaders who play an exceptional role in helping build stronger communities through youth volunteerism.

At this year’s Super Star Gala “A Night at the Royal Ascot”, which takes place on Saturday, April 28, at the Del Mar Country Club, the National Leadership Award will be presented to the following families:

The Scafidi Family:

Joe and Barbara Scafidi and their five children have been involved with Kids Korps since 2007, when they moved from New Jersey. Together, they have participated in numerous activities, doing beach clean-ups, serving at the Ronald McDonald House, support for the military, and Miracle League. Two of the Scafidi children, Olivia and Alexandra, have received the Presidential Service Award. When asked about their involvement in Kids Korps, Joe and Barbara responded: “It is an honor to be associated with such a world class organization and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community.”

The Lichtenberger Family:

Mike and Liz Lichtenberger and their two daughters Hannah and Lauren became involved with Kids Korps in 2005. Through simple acts of playing bingo with seniors, packing meals for the hungry, cleaning the beach and other projects, the Lichtenbergers have been touched by the joys of giving. Liz currently co-leads the Pacific Rim Elementary Kids Korps chapter, and the Aviara Oaks Middle School Chapter. Both daughters have received the Presidential Service Award for their participation in Kids Korps volunteer activities. One of their favorite projects is making dinner and serving it to homeless individuals at the Bread of Life Mission.

The Bobileff Family:

The Bobileff Family has been actively involved with Kids Korps for many years. Gary and Maggie have served as Super Star Gala chairs for the past two years, and Maggie currently serves on Kids Korps’ National Board. Maggie’s son Philippe participated in Kids Korps programs for over six years, which provided him with a great foundation for his career in the Swiss Military. Their commitment to and generous support of Kids Korps’ programs have earned them this year’s National Leadership Award.

This year’s Super Star Gala will also recognize Rancho Santa Fe School,

which has been a vital part of Kids Korps since its inception. Rancho Santa Fe School has embraced Kids Korps as its partner in service learning for 2012, ensuring that all children in the school will have an opportunity to participate in community service. In doing so, they hope to start a chain reaction for other area schools to follow.
