Experts to lead theater summer camp workshops in Rancho Santa Fe
The Village Church Community Theater will hold workshops at its summer camp in Rancho Santa Fe. The camp is for students in 4th-12th grade, and will be held from Aug. 5-9.
The camps include:
Improv and Comedy, Theresa Layne
: Layne is on the Mira Costa Actors Academy. She is a professional theater (Old Globe, Colony Theatre, North Coast Rep, New Village Arts, Moonlight Stage, Arizona Rep) and TV (Discovery Channel) actor, and is a film and theater director.
Singing Voice, Paul Maley:
Maley graduated from UCLA’s theater program in 1984, where he concentrated on acting, singing, and a girl named Sharon. After their marriage in 1987, they spent two years together creating sketches for a Northern California church before moving to San Diego to work with Lamb’s Players Theatre’s Educational Touring Company. Maley served at LTP for 20 years as a performer, writer, designer, administrator, and grant writer. LPT acting credits include educational productions of The Glass Menagerie, Measure for Measure, and over 2,000 performances in 30 touring plays. He frequently acts in outreach performances with the San Diego Symphony and his family’s own company, Stage Works.
Dance/Movement, Victoria Velsaco:
Some of Velsaco’s past performances include A Chorus Line, Chicago, Evita, and Guys and Dolls. She studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City and has traveled the country performing in churches, theaters, cruise ships, film and television sets — basically any stage that will welcome her!
Acting, Bobbie Helland:
Helland teaches high school theater in Escondido, and is an adult survivor of homeschooling, having homeschooled her own two children all the way through high school. She is married to Jon, a pilot with Mexican Medical Missionaries. Stage credits include Buried: the Sago Mine Disaster at 6th@Penn [Anna McCloy]; Fortinbras at the Stagehouse Theater [Gertrude]; and Walking Across Egypt at Grace Community Church in Ramona.
Dance, Ashley McConnell:
McConnell has a major in dance, and is currently on the dance faculty at Mira Costa College. She will walk teens through a variety of dance moves, and teach them various techniques, helpful onstage for dancers at any level.
