You may have spotted a helicopter hovering over the village and police activity around R. Roger Rowe School on Oct. 5. The action was part of a staged emergency drill for the school, Rancho Santa Fe Patrol and Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, with participation from the California Highway Patrol and sheriff’s department. The drill had the agencies run through what would happen if there were a shooter in the village.
RSF Patrol Chief Matt Wellhouser said it was a “very productive” exercise and they learned a lot that they need to work on to enhance the security of the school.
