Mary Anne Nuskin, the new principal of Earl Warren Middle School, recently visited Solana Santa Fe Elementary. She gave parents an overview of the middle school, which is part of the San Dieguito Union High School District, and told them what to expect when their children begin seventh grade in the fall. In addition to explaining the academic classes the students are required to take, Nuskin talked about the variety of elective classes offered including guitar, surf P.E., skate P.E. and Chinese.

“When you are building a school schedule, think balance,” said Nuskin.

Earl Warren also offers after-school enrichment classes run by the adjacent Boys and Girls Club.

Nuskin, who has been part of the district for the past eight years and joined Earl Warren as principal this school year, encouraged parents to stay connected with their children when they start seventh grade. “This is the time kids make choices and we want to make sure they make the right choices,” she said.

There are approximately 700 seventh and eight grade students who attend the middle school each year. Earl Warren, which has been recognized as a California Distinguished School and National Blue Ribbon School, is the only school in the district with a county library on campus.
