A 51-year-old Oceanside man was fatally injured in a one-car crash Friday evening, Nov. 1, in Rancho Santa Fe, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened for unknown reasons about 5 p.m. on La Granada, just east of Avenida Maravillas, according to a statement from CHP spokesman Officer Mark Latulippe.

La Granada — alternately known as County Highway S9 — runs along the southern edge of Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, and is separated from the golf course by trees and a low wooden fence at most points.

Latulippe said the victim, driving an Acura Integra sedan, was headed west on La Granada when he veered north off the road, toward the golf course, and struck a tree.

Medics took the man to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he died, Latulippe said.

“Due to observations made at the scene, the driver’s impairment will be investigated regarding the cause of this (crash),” Latulippe said in a statement.

Traffic along La Granada was affected for about an hour as Highway Patrol officers investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
