Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society courtyard entry nearly complete
The Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society will soon have a new entrance to its village home, as work is nearly complete on a courtyard repair project.
The impetus for the project was damage being caused to the wall, patio and drainage system by the roots of a 40-foot tree near the entry that had outgrown its planter.
The previous high, rounded arch and gate at the La Flecha House were not part of the original structure that was designed by Lilian Rice and built in 1923. With the damage to the wall expected from the tree removal, the Historical Society took the opportunity to replace the portal with one that is more in keeping with Rice’s original vision.
