86th Candlelight Ball raises $1.8 million for Scripps La Jolla
The annual Scripps Candlelight Ball continued its time-honored tradition of ushering in the holiday season at Scripps Health with a spectacular event for a worthy cause. The Scripps 86th Annual Candlelight Ball drew 440 guests to the Fairmont Grand Del Mar Dec. 5 in support of the new Barbey Family Emergency and Trauma Center, opening in the fall of 2016 on the first floor of the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
John, Nonnie and Suzy Barbey were among several honored guests at the Dec. 5 event that raised nearly $1.8 million for the new center, which will more than double the size of the current emergency and trauma facilities. More than 30,000 patients are treated each year in the hospital’s emergency department or trauma center.
Former Scripps Chief Medical Officer and trauma surgeon A. Brent Eastman, M.D. and his wife Sarita Eastman, M.D. also were at the top of the honored guest list. A campaign is under way to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Eastman by naming the trauma area in the new Barbey Emergency and Trauma Center in his honor.
