In an epic battle that many fans said was the best Boys Junior Dunkers game they had ever seen, the GojiGuys team recently won the Star League Championship by defeating the Knicks team 36-35 at the buzzer.

The Knicks had a 20-18 lead at halftime and then scored the first 8 points of the second half behind the outstanding play of Tyler Buchner and Dax Kay. Down by 10 points with under 10 minutes to go, the GojiGuys fought back to tie the game in regulation behind the stellar play of leading scorer R.J. Faltinsky and teammates Camden Morris and Charlie Mossy.

After an early season loss due to forfeit (too many sick kids), the Blue Ninjas (yes, their jerseys are orange, but that’s the fun of Junior Dunkers basketball) stormed back, never losing another game. This propelled them to the Championship game on Feb. 1. Their opponents were the vaunted Celtics. The battle proved to be a good one with the Celtics taking and holding an early lead well into the fourth quarter. But the Blue Ninjas dug deep and tied the game with just a few minutes left. From there, it was a seesaw battle ending with a 34-34 tie at the end of regulation. As the coaches prepped their squads for overtime, parents paced nervously, some left the gym overwrought with stress, and still a few from each team approached the League Commissioner, requesting that he consider a tie. With the authority only a Commissioner can muster, he indeed declared the Championship
