After an early season loss due to forfeit (too many sick kids), the Blue Ninjas (yes, their jerseys are orange, but that’s the fun of Junior Dunkers basketball) stormed back, never losing another game. This propelled them to the Championship game on Feb. 1. Their opponents were the vaunted Celtics. The battle proved to be a good one with the Celtics taking and holding an early lead well into the fourth quarter. But the Blue Ninjas dug deep and tied the game with just a few minutes left. From there, it was a seesaw battle ending with a 34-34 tie at the end of regulation. As the coaches prepped their squads for overtime, parents paced nervously, some left the gym overwrought with stress, and still a few from each team approached the League Commissioner, requesting that he consider a tie. With the authority only a Commissioner can muster, he indeed declared the Championship
