Czech violin duo to perform at Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe

Violinists Julie Svecená and her father, Jaroslav Svecený, will perform Oct. 27 at the Village Church.

In cooperation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, the Czech School San Diego hosts a free classical violin concert by internationally recognized Czech violin player Jaroslav Svecený and his daughter, Julie Svecená, who are on a tour of the United States. The concert will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Village Church.

The father-daughter duo will also present famous and rarely heard works for two violins from the 18th to the 21st century by Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach, Boieldieu, Arriagada, Svecený, Leclair and Bériot. They will also perform the American premiere of Svecený’s new piece of sacral music “Church Phantasy for a Solo Violin.”

Superb talent and entertainment is in store for the audience this month too, with a performance Oct. 24 with Broadway star Susan Egan at the Village Church Fellowship Hall.

Rancho Santa Big Band Orchestra to swing at Village Church

Big band music blows into the Ranch from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Village Church, 6225 Paseo Delicias.

The Rancho Santa Fe Big Band Swing Orchestra, a 17-piece outfit led by professor and former president of the San Diego Musicians’ Association Jack Wheaton, featuring producer and trumpeter Dominick Addario, vocalist and events coordinator Marie Addario, and concert director Dave Murray, will perform its rousing 13th annual concert celebrating The Big Band era.

Tenor Fernando Varela to sing at Community Concerts of Rancho Santa Fe

Community Concerts of Rancho Santa Fe will present tenor Fernando Varela at the Village Church on Friday, Sept 19.

Doors open at The Fellowship Hall at 6:15 p.m. for wine, sponsored by Northern Trust, and light supper selections catered by Whole Foods, plus Yummy Cupcakes and other treats for dessert during intermission.

Varela will perform in the Village Church Sanctuary, taking advantage of its beautiful acoustics, though all other festivities of the evening will be in the Fellowship Hall.

Performers announced for next Community Concerts of Rancho Santa Fe season

The first performer will be Fernando Varela, a modern tenor, who spans the musical repertoire from opera to pop. Offering classical and popular appeal, Varela is under the tutelage of renowned star-maker David Foster. Barbra Streisand commented “You are going to be a pretty big star.” Recently, he performed at The Bridges to rave reviews.
